Mazda CX-5 2021 vs Toyota RAV4 2021: Better Performance and Driving Experience

The CX-5 is a compact SUV that not only has a style advantage over the competition, but it strives to do more on the road and with specialized features. With up to 320 lb-ft of torque with a turbo power option, you'll get more satisfaction out of the standard paddle shifters and manual drive mode.

We are also proud to compare the CX-5 against competitors. Here, we line it up against the 2021 Toyota RAV4.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 reigns with the strongest powertrain

GS, GX, Kuro and GT models have a standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that generates 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. While the RAV4's rival engine has slightly more horsepower, the CX-5's 2.5-litre has better torque. That's good news when you need a little more response to cut through traffic.

The CX-5 also features a turbocharged version of its 2.5-litre four-cylinder that increases horsepower up to 250 and torque up to 320 lb-ft. It's standard on the Signature and 100th Anniversary Edition and optional on the GT. The RAV4's standard lineup does not have anything that competes with this powertrain. As a matter of fact, the turbo nearly doubles the amount of torque offered on the RAV4's gas engine.

The CX-5 pairs its engines with a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode and a drive selection switch. Turbo models also receive paddle shifters. This transmission is a more performance, minded alternative to the RAV4's CVT and eight-speed automatic transmissions.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 impresses with better performance technologies

A unique system found on the CX-5, advanced G-Vectoring Control automatically adjusts power distribution under the CX-5 to reduce turning force stresses. The result is a more precise drive and better performance out of the vehicle. You won't find this system in the RAV4. The i-Activ All-Wheel Drive system also contributes with better traction around corners and overall stability.

You can have this more stable ride in the comfort of front seats that have more headroom than the RAV4. Passengers also enjoy more rear legroom in the CX-5.

Overall, the CX-5 has better power and torque, a more personalized driving experience, and more advanced handling and agility technology.
