How the 2023 Mazda CX-50 Compares with the Mazda CX-5 and the Mazda CX-9
March 10 2022,
The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is a totally new SUV which joins the Mazda family to complement the CX-5 and the CX-9.
An ideal middle ground
The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is positioned to be the ideal size for you if you want an SUV that is slightly larger than the CX-5, but not quite as big as the CX-9. Indeed, this new model features a wheelbase that is exactly in the middle of the other two models, being 117 millimeters longer than the CX-5’s and 117 millimeters shorter than the CX-9’s. The overall length however, is much closer to the smaller CX-5, which makes the new model easier to manoeuvre and park than many of its competitors. The CX-50 is also wider than the CX-5 and lower than both the CX-5 and the CX-9, which allows it a more stable and dynamic feel on the road. These exterior dimensions translate to more legroom for front and rear seat passengers as well as more cargo space when all of the seats are up than in both the CX-5 and the CX-9.
The same efficient powertrain
The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is available with two engines, a 2.5L four-cylinder unit that produces 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque and a turbocharged version of the same engine, which can deliver up to 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. Both of these engines have already proven their reliability and their efficiency in the CX-5, with the turbocharged engine being standard in the CX-9. The i-Activ all-wheel drive system is also standard in the CX-50, which gives it an increased level of sportiness and safety, especially in winter. In keeping with its position in the Mazda lineup, the CX-50 is offered in three trim levels that are equipped with all of the features you want, with an MSRP that is contained between the most affordable CX-5 and the most expensive CX-9.
