2021 Mazda CX-5 vs. 2021 Nissan Rogue: When Refinement and Handling Matter
February 19 2021,
Some drivers purchase an SUV strictly because it meets the day-to-day needs in terms of space and commodities. But others also want to be able to enjoy the drive. Mazda takes driving dynamics very seriously, and that’s why the CX-5 offers all the space, technology and commodities one needs in a compact SUV, but adds its state-of-the-art engineering to provide drivers with superior performance and handling.
Here, we compare the 2021 Mazda CX-5 with the 2021 Nissan Rogue.
The pinnacle of performance in the 2021 Mazda CX-5
The performance aspect of the Mazda CX-5 starts with a pair of highly efficient engines. Standard in four CX-5 trim is the 2.5 L SkyActiv-G four-cylinder engine that develops 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift mode and Drive Selection switch. This engine provides plenty of power for all situations on the road.
But Mazda pushes things even further by offering its Skyactiv-G 2.5 Dynamic Pressure Turbo engine that can provide up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. This powerful unit is optional on the GT trim, but standard on the Signature and 100th Anniversary grades. It comes with the same quick-shifting 6-speed automatic gearbox with manual-shift mode and Drive Selection switch, but adds paddle shifters to enhance the experience at the wheel.
The Nissan Rogue gets only one engine throughout its lineup. It’s a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that can only provide 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. Not only is this powertrain less capable than the CX-5s engines, but it also uses a less reactive continuously variable transmission.
The 2021 Mazda CX-5 is ahead in terms of technology and refinement
Technology and refinement are carried over to the rest of the CX-5. For example, the available i-Activ AWD system constantly calculates road conditions and driver input to adjust traction, providing a safer and more precise driving experience.
The CX-5’s interior is also precisely crafted to combine utility and refinement throughout the cabin while offering more rear legroom than the Rogue.
